My Autograph Collection

What Is Your Hobby Or Recreational Activity And Where Are You From?

I am from Canada and I enjoy collecting autographs during my spare time.

About My Hobby Or Recreational Activity

I collect photos, cards, letters, and other memorabilia signed by famous people. I have autographs signed by actors & actresses, politicians, and athletes. I have a collection of over 230 autographs. I get most of my autographs through the mail, but some of the autographs I have been able to get in person. I have had the opportunity to meet many celebrities in person. I have the patience and urge to stand in line for over 4 hours at an autograph session to meet a celebrity in person.

What Are Some Of The Greatest Things You Have Accomplished On This Hobby Or Recreational Activity?

My greatest accomplishment was when I got to meet my favorite actor in person. In August 2003, I got to meet actor Lou Ferrigno at a Sci-Fi Convention in Toronto. He is noted for playing the role of the "Incredible Hulk" in the tv series.

The best autograph I have received through the mail has to be from boxing legend Muhammad Ali. He sent me a signed color photo.

What Materials do I Need And How Do I Get Started On This Hobby/Recreational Activity?

If you plan to write to a celebrity by mail, you will need the following stamps, envelopes, a pen to write with, a celebrity's address, and a letter. You can type your letter to the celebrity on a computer or send a hand written letter.

If you are going to meet a celebrity in person, take some money with you. Some celebrities have their own photos that you can purchase and others charge a fee for each item you get signed.

Do You Have Any Tips Or Tricks On How To Succeed At This Hobby/Recreational Activity?

If you request an autograph by mail or email, always include your name and address at the top of your letter. Don't tell the celebrity that you collect autographs as a hobby or else the celebrity will think that you'll want to sell his/her autograph. Instead end your letter with the following statement "Could you please send me a personally signed autograph picture? Could you please sign it "To Your Name" or something of that nature?" Finally don't forget to thank the celebrity for taking his/her time.

If you are going to meet a celebrity in person, get to the autograph session at least two hours ahead of time. Hundreds and thousands of people will show up at these sessions. When you meet the celebrity, get only one or two items signed, because there are other people waiting in line.
